Windows 7 Release Candidate Interactive Setup, Part 2
5. First boot experience. After installing Windows, you'll be guided through a number of post-Setup steps. These include... 5a. User name and PC name. You must configure a single administrator-class account and provide a network name for the PC.
5b. Password and password hint. Curiously, passwords are still optional in Windows 7.
5c. Windows product key and activation configure. You can optionally enter your Windows product key now and configure Windows Product Activation to automatically activate.
5d. Configure Automatic Updates. You can use the recommended settings or something way less secure, your choice.
5e. Time and date settings. For some reason, Windows 7 defaults to Pacific Time, so you're probably going to have to change this.
5f. Join an available wireless network. If you have wireless hardware in the PC, you'll be asked to join a wireless network. You won't see this step if you don't. 5g. Network location. Choose between Home, Work, and Public presets, which determines the availability of your PC on the local network.
5h. HomeGroup configuration. Here, you create or join a Windows 7 HomeGroup and configure which items (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Printers) that you will share. You can skip this step if you'd prefer to ignore this feature or configure it later.
6. Access the desktop for the first time. After that, Windows 7 will prepare your desktop and allow you to use the OS for the first time. In the background, Windows Update will download and install any important or critical software updates if you configured Automatic Updates to do so.
